Children at Meon Infant School have warmed the hearts of residents and staff at a local care home with Christmas carols and festive cheer.

Year 2 students from Blue Class visited Brent Court, a short walk from the school, to sing traditional and contemporary festive songs for everyone to enjoy.

The home contacted the school to ask whether some children would be interested in singing to the residents.

Mrs. Reid, who is the Blue Class teacher, spoke of her pride in what the children did to bring joy to those who enjoyed the songs.

She said: “This has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to go out into the community to make many people smile this Christmas.

“I’m so proud of what the children have achieved and admire their enthusiasm to sing different songs and encourage residents to sing along too.”

As a thank you, Brent Court awarded the children with donuts and squash, and plenty of questions were asked about what the pupils love about Christmas.

Ann Simmons, a member of staff at Meon Infant who supported the visit, says singing at Brent Court was another opportunity to promote the schools focus on engaging with the community.

She said: “I think it is very rewarding for the children to have the opportunity to go out into the community to spread the ‘Meon’ name and they had such a lovely time.

“We are very proud of our children and encourage their involvement, especially as the school was specifically asked to attend. Well done, everyone!”

Buddy, aged 7, said: “It was really good and exciting to sing for the residents and I enjoyed eating the donut they gave us.”

Olive, aged 7, said: "I was really happy because singing makes me joyful."

Jesse, aged 7, said: "One of the people tried to get into our class photo."

Rex, aged 6, said: "We made them feel happy and cared for.”

Merry Christmas to everyone at Brent Court and the surrounding community from everyone at Meon Infant School.
